Are you tired and bored with the watch cursor and plain trash can? Even the alert dialogs are boring! Well, I decided to do something about it. I've developed an entire new line of animated cursors, trash can replacements, alert dialog box strings, and changes to the Special Menu "Empty trash" item.
I have arranged all of my cursors into sets. Each set contains the appropriate resources to change the cursors, trash can, menu change, and alert strings. Each set is in its own folder and split between two files: <name>-Finder and <name>-System.
In order to install my cursors, you will need and know how to use Apple's ResEdit program. Work on a COPY of your System and Finder files! To install, copy the following resources from the following to your respective file, either your System file or your Finder file:
• <name>-System:
CURS (For System Only: copy the actual icons, do not replace the
entire resource. Your file contains many other icons the System
needs!)
• <name>-Finder:
acur
CURS
ICN# (copy the icons only, do not replace the entire resource)
MENU ID=5
STR ID=128, 129, 5120
Now move your Original System and Finder files out of the System Folder and into another folder naming it Temp (or whatever you like). Move the copies you modified into the System Folder and rename them "System" and "Finder". Reboot. If everything went well, you should see a "new desktop". You may then delete the Temp folder (or whatever you named that folder).
Things to try:
• A disk-to-disk copy
• Throw something in the renamed Trash and empty it
• Lock a file (Get Info Dialog) and throw in trash, etc.
• Throw a folder (with files in it) in the trash
